Dr. Hartzband is an innovator whose contributions have helped revolutionize the way joint surgery is performed. He was one of the first surgeons to perform minimally invasive hip and knee replacement and pioneered many of today's surgical techniques, including two-incision hip replacement and quadriceps-sparing knee replacement. Dr. Hartzband has helped develop many of the industry's most advanced orthopedic implants, including the gender knee as well as hip replacements that accommodate the difference in female anatomy. He pioneered same-day hip and knee replacement and has been performing them in appropriate patients.
Dr. Hartzband is an expert to whom other orthopedic surgeons turn for information, instruction and advice. He lectures nationally and internationally, and has authored numerous articles and book chapters on topics relating to total hip and knee arthroplasty, minimally invasive techniques, and computer-assisted surgical navigation. He is the surgeon to whom other joint replacement surgeons refer their patients with complications.
After receiving his medical degree from McGill University, Dr. Hartzband completed a general surgery residency followed by an orthopedic residency at Montefiore Hospital/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has been an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Dr. Hartzband is Medical Director of the Bone and Joint Center at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ. He has also served as Director for Total Joint Replacement Services at Hackensack University Medical Center.
